Bio
For more than 15 years, I have focused on issues concerning university education, including during my days as a reporter at Yomiuri Shimbun. From 2008 to 2019, I was involved in surveys to measure the ability of universities in Japan. With a response rate of over 90%, they revealed for the first time the rate of students who drop out, repeat academic years, and graduate at Japanese universities.
In 2019, I established Question Lab based on my perception that students’ skills to question and identify issues have deteriorated. A main focus of Question Lab is to develop these and other social skills among both students and graduates.
I have served as a member of various committee in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology, including the University Portrait Preparatory Committee, National University Corporation Evaluation Committee, and an Investigative Committee for the Strategic Management of the National University Corporation.
Currently, I serve as a member of three committees: an investigative committee for national universities with autonomous contract relations to the government, a reform council for educational foundations, and an evaluation committee for the National Institution for Academic Degrees and Quality Enhancement of Higher Education.
