Evaluation of the competitive effect of the implicit auction on the interconnector
Interconnectors play a crucial role in electric power systems. However, interconnector capacity is a scarce resource because vertically integrated utilities were required to have generating capacity enough to supply most customers within their operating region under a regulated monopoly.
In this study, Research Fellow Kota Sugimoto evaluates the competitive effect of the implicit auction on the interconnector using applied econometrics and machine learning approaches. He also makes recommendations on energy policy for the optimal operation and expansion of electricity networks.
