Bio
Haruka Sakamoto, MD MPH, PhD, is a primary care physician and a project researcher at the Department of Global Health Policy, Graduate School of Medicine, University of Tokyo. She received her MD from Sapporo Medical University and worked as a physician at St Luke’s International Hospital in Tokyo for several years. With a scholarship from the World Bank, she received her MPH at the Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health. From 2011-2013 and 2016, she worked at the international cooperation department of Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare, where she was deeply involved in health policy activities. As part of her work, she participated in WHO meetings, G7 meetings, and bilateral cooperation activities through the Japan International Cooperation Agency. She is a 26th Term Associate Member of the Science Council of Japan, and is also serving as an associate professor at St. Luke’s International University, a senior manager at the Health and Global Policy Institute, and a policy advisor for the city of Kushiro, Hokkaido, in the field of public health.
