Bio
After earning a law degree from Kyoto University in 1973, joined the Ministry of Finance. Served as advisor to the Minister of Finance of Japan in London. Has been professor at Osaka University, and taught at Princeton University. Has also been president of the Policy Research Institute, MOF (2005–6), visiting professor at the University of Tokyo, and visiting scholar at Columbia Law School. Joined the Tokyo Foundation (now the Tokyo Foundation for Policy Research) in 2007 after retiring from MOF in 2006. Served as a special member of the Government Tax Commission from 2010 to 2012. Is currently a member of various deliberative councils and advisory panels established in the Digital Agency; Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry; and the Agency for Cultural Affairs.
